April 20 to 30 · Registration open
One year after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Portugal, the campaign Conversations with Scientists - Decades of Science for Vaccine Days kicks off. This joint initiative of Ciência Viva and several Portuguese scientific institutions will promote conversations between scientists and the public about how vaccines against COVID-19 were developed in record time, with the guarantee of their effectiveness and safety. The mobilization of the scientific community for this campaign is yet another example of the collaborative efforts that have been taking place over the past year.
Between 20 and 30 April, around 400 conversations will take place online at different times and aimed at different audiences - schools and organized groups of citizens, namely companies, associations and media, and individual citizens. To explore the decades of science that underlie the development of vaccines against COVID-19, this initiative has more than a hundred scientists and science communicators, from various fields of knowledge, working in more than two dozen institutions all over the country.
This campaign is the result of a partnership between Ciência Viva, the Institute of Research and Innovation in Health of the University of Porto (i3S), the Portuguese Immunology Society (SPI) and COLife, an alliance between six scientific institutions - Centro de Chronic Disease Studies at NOVA Medical School (CEDOC-NMS), Champalimaud Research - Champalimaud Foundation (FC), Institute of Experimental and Technological Biology (iBET), João Lobo Antunes Institute of Molecular Medicine (iMM), Institute of Chemical and Biological Technology António Xavier from NOVA University of Lisbon (ITQB NOVA) and Gulbenkian Institute of Science (IGC).
Participation in the conversations is free with prior registration required here.
